168 steps lead to the top of the Tower where an unexpected panorama of the surrounding countryside spreads out before the visitor. In the far distance, Saint-Etienne Cathedral of Bourges, a UNESCO World Heritage Site can be seen.
The remains of the castle surrounding the tower reveal all the stages of the construction of this exceptional site from the original castle, to the elegant residence remodeled by Duke Jean de Berry in the fourteenth century to its tragic fate in the nineteenth century.
• The merchant Jacques Coeur, financier to Charles VII and head of a vast commercial empire. His palace in Bourges bears his name and has become a major tourist attraction.
